Hospice of Northwest Michigan is one of the newest registered partners in the commemorative effort to acknowledge Vietnam Veterans during the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration. Over the next three years they will be hosting events open to Vietnam veterans, Veteran’s of all lines of the military and their families including Merchant Marines and Department of Defense, State Department and other government civilians in an effort to afford all veterans the appreciation and recognition they deserve for their service and sacrifice.
These new events are in addition to the already occurring We Honor Veteran’s Pinning Ceremonies being done to recognize, thank and honor each and every veteran in their care on behalf of a grateful nation. Amy Wieland, Executive Director of Hospice of Northwest Michigan will collaborate and coordinate these activities with other area organizations, Veteran’s and Veteran’s Affairs Offices. As a We Honor Veterans hospice provider, Hospice of Northwest Michigan is providing specialized care to Veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness. The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs created We Honor Veterans to empower hospice and other healthcare providers across America to meet the unique needs of seriously ill Veterans and their families.
The Vietnam 50th Anniversary programs are organized around a series of national, regional, and local events that are designed to recognize Vietnam veterans, their families and their contribution to the war effort and community. Hospice of Northwest Michigan is planning two community events for 2016 in addition to the individual Hospice pinning ceremonies. These all inclusive Veteran’s Appreciation events will be in coordination with the Charlevoix Elks Poker Run for Veterans and the local Veteran’s Day events, parades and activities in our area and include a recognition pinning ceremony.
Hospice of Northwest Michigan would be interested in hearing from veterans in the area who are not listed with the local Veteran’s Affairs offices. Your name would be added to the list of vets receiving recognition, information about the program, and will provide you an opportunity to participate in upcoming community events.
