Hospice of Northwest Michigan has announced it has received a grant from the Bay Harbor Foundation to be used towards better meeting the immediate unfunded needs of the community in 2016. Amy Wieland, Executive Director, said the funding will be used to support and to improve the safety and comfort care needs provided to patients that are not covered by insurance.
“We are extremely grateful to the Bay Harbor Foundation for recognizing our organization and services as a valued choice that they wanted to support.” Wieland said. The Bay Harbor Foundation funding in conjunction with other donations, will be used to meet the otherwise unfunded needs of Hospice patients in our service regarding patient comfort care and safety. Funds are especially needed now because we are experiencing more situations in which patients and families lack insurance or are under-insured at a time when proceeds from fundraising are trending down in amounts given even if the number of givers remains about the same.
Wieland said Hospice of Northwest Michigan is focused on providing a community-based and locally-staffed/managed hospice services that take care of their community friends, families and neighbors. “Our community needs to better understand all that hospice services can do for them,” she explained. “You have a Choice in these services and all hospice organizations are not the same.” To learn more about Hospice of Northwest Michigan or to schedule presentations to local organizations please contact Wieland at (231) 547-7659.
