Northwest Michigan Hospice Assist is here to serve our friends and neighbors in northwestern Lower Michigan. Our caring locally-based staff are trained to meet the immediate needs of our communities, caregivers, loved ones, families, and patients. All grief and loss services are provided free of charge to anyone suffering any type of loss.

Adult Monthly Grief Support Groups
Meeting monthly in select locations, these small groups provide guided talks for those who are grieving a loss of any kind (i.e., deployment, loss of a job, loss of a pet, etc.) as well as those mourning the loss of a significant person in their life.

Programs of special significance ...
5-week Intensive Grief Programs
Special, intensive 5-week sessions are offered throughout the year to address specific types aspects of grief. We offer several sessions for persons having experienced recent loss as well as a special intensive focus around the winter holidays.
Handling the Holidays
This open community evening program is scheduled before the holiday season to assist anyone experiencing loss. It is a lively, interactive program, offering therapeutic advice, open discussion, coping skills, and reference material for anyone in need of a bit more help during this special time of year.
Other Events and Resources
Annual Memorial Service
This open community service is scheduled at the end of June for all residents (year-round and seasonal) who have experienced death. We gather to celebrate, remember and honor, not only individuals who have died in hospice care, but those who are being mourned in the hearts of our community.
Bereavement Room & Lending Library
This room is available to the community to access books, CareNotes, and other materials regarding loss and grieving, as well as other comfort and healing materials related to loss. It is located in the Health Department of Northwest Michigan Offices at 220 West Garfield, Charlevoix, Michigan and is accessible from 9:00 AM—4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
School Grief Support
Grief affects all of is at all ages, children grieve differently from adults. When a loved one dies it is often a child’s first experience with grief, like adults it affects every area of life, physically, emotionally, spiritually.
Working with school counselors and staff we provide a six week in school grief program using story and crafts to assist children in exploring their feelings, develop healthy coping strategies and find comfort and safety in learning they are not alone. This six week program is followed by “Kids Grief Club” monthly in school follow up groups throughout the school year.
Groups are all designed to meet each student at age appropriate levels and services are provided to Elementary, Junior High and High School.
